"Making the best use of collected Rain Water"

( Picture provided by: Rurallivingtoday.Com )

Depending on where you stay and local laws you may be able to utilize rain water to help keep your plants and garden healthy. Some areas of stay won't allow you to collect water so before collecting check with your local laws first. Being in a area where this is allowed will be a plus for you and your plants. Wouldn't it be great to use rain water too water with instead of adding to your water bill. If so, this is for you. Houses now days have gutter system that can be used to collect water from a passing shower or storm. By placing a bucket (any size) at the end of your gutter drain off you can collect as much water as needed and store it for long term use. If you don't have a gutter system in place you can still benefit by collecting, but it just might take a couple of rain showers to produce a good amount. Either way what you are collecting is free which is always good for anyone to hear. The pH ( power of hydrogen ) is anywhere between 5.6 -6. This is ideal being there is no chlorine in it which could affect your plants vigor, growth, and root uptake. This is also a great idea when those much dreaded sanctions are a factor during those long drawn out hotter months that are presented by your local town or state. When using concrete as a container keep in mind they are made with lime which will cause the water to spike a bit ( 7 pH ). A simple pH tester kit will help you identify your waters pH before use. I would say a plastic container is the best for this purpose but if concrete is all you have, it still can be beneficial especially if you are using what's collected by weeks end. Some plants need more water than others depending on the variety they are. An example would be rose bushes. They tend to drink more water since they are always in the process of creating those beautiful blossoms for you. Needing to be watered as much as they do, this will definitely help in not dipping into those hard earned funds. So, if you are able to collect your rain water let it work for you in more ways than one. Who's up for "Collecting" ?
